Great Significance of Irrigation.
Irrigation involves controlling water that is used in plants during different time intervals and is used to maintaining landscape. In order to help the growth of agricultural crops irrigation is used so as to prevent soil consolidation. Supplying of water to all crops in a uniform way is done by irrigation without exceeding or limiting any flow of water. There are various impacts of irrigation that affects the environment and these impacts aims at minimizing the negative impact that might affect the environment.
Most of the time when irrigation is very used and popular is during dry seasons where many regions in different parts of the country are not receiving any rain. In any growing agriculture crop irrigation plays a vital role and therefore one should know which type of irrigation to use so as to become a successful farmer. Various method of irrigation are used and they usually depend on the amount of water that is supplied to the plants.
Sprinkler is a method of irrigation and is mostly used because it is a modern method of irrigation and it uses sprinklers to spray water in form of tiny drops like rain. The most commonly used devices are sprays and sprinkling which can be installed permanently in a solid place or set in a place just for short period. Set of portable movement or intermittent mechanical movement is applied to move the devices which were installed in the soil after a given amount of water has been applied to the crops.
These devices can be mounted on booms and pipelines when they are set in a certain way so as to ensure a continuous flow of water through the land surface. This type of irrigation is adapted when there are shallow soil texture and in case there are uneven topography. Sprinkler irrigation is also adapted in areas where the crops are closely cultivated and the area has high density.
Depending with the depth of the water table, subsurface irrigation which is another method of irrigation will be applied below the soil surface. In case the water table is below the surface some devices such as trickle or drip are used and they are buried below the soil surface.
Drip or trickle irrigation is another method of irrigation and it is applied through emitters which are inserted in the soil surface through the use of small of drops and streams. Drip or trickle method of irrigation discharges water at a very low rate and therefore it can be applied in all types of soils. This type of method is adapted in areas where you want to control the amount of water and the intervals that is applied to plant root zone.
